Botox and dermal fillers can provide you with a more youthful appearance.
You’ll come in for a consultation to determine if you’re a good candidate for Botox or dermal fillers. An ideal candidate should be in good overall health and not have any allergies. The procedures are not suitable for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Before administering Botox or dermal fillers, our Cincinnati team will cleanse the area and chill or anesthetize the skin at the injection site. If desired, the patient can receive additional sedation.
The Botox or dermal filler will be injected into specific areas of the face to reduce wrinkles or to treat other symptoms. This process only takes a few minutes.
Dr. Beth Hanks will explain aftercare steps you should take, such as sitting up for several hours and avoiding strenuous exercise. You should avoid touching the area so the injectables don’t migrate into other areas of the face.
Over 6 million people receive Botox treatment every year!
The core difference between Botox and dermal filler is that filler adds volume to the face while Botox freezes facial muscles and prevents the patient from contracting the muscles to make certain expressions.
They are also completely different substances. Botox is also known as botulinum toxin which is a bacteria that has been purified. Dermal fillers can be made of various substances that add collagen or plump the skin, such as hyaluronic acid.
It can take 1-2 weeks to see the full effects of Botox and since it is a temporary procedure, it will last for 2-6 months after which all remnants of Botox will be gone from the body. Upon the first injection, patients may notice that Botox dissipates more quickly than subsequent retouches.
In comparison to Botox, dermal fillers produce instant results and you will notice a significant change right after your appointment. However, it will take about 4 weeks for the filler to integrate completely with the tissue. You can encourage this process by drinking lots of water. Some swelling is to be expected after the initial injection and can last for up to 2 weeks. Over time, dermal fillers will dissolve, but they typically last for 6-12 months.
If left untreated, a tooth infection can spread to other parts of your body.
